Infoblox Support has discovered a problem with DHCP Option handling and Windows XP clients that have Service Pack 3 (SP3) installed. After installing SP3 on Windows XP, the client machine will not process any DHCP option in the ACK packet that follows option-43 data. This is a client side issue that presumably Microsoft is working on. The problem does not affect Infoblox alone, but can include VitalQIP users as well. Since this is a client problem, there are a limited set of actions you can take. What you can do to mitigate the problem: 1) Remove option-43 data from the DHCP server. This may not be possible as other devices may need this information. 2) By using filters (like option-60 filters), make sure you are only returning option-43 data for clients that really need it and not necessarily all clients. If you are using the Microsoft namespace, this option will not resolve the problem, so temporary removal of the option-43 data may be your only choice. Since the client dictates the order of options, only the client can dictate the order that the options are returned. A server will always return the options in the same order they were requested.
